Notification System
**EDIT Wed Dec 9 00:28:16 UTC 2009 ** The notification system has been fixed in the new release... we are currently processing the queue, which is upwards of 12m jobs... please bear with us while our workers chew through this large queue and get your notification / emails out. Some may come more quickly than others due to weights on the notifications themselves, but we are hoping in the next 24 hours to have all the queues cleared and all notifications delivered that had been queued up over the past few days. Again I apologize for this inconvenience, but we are almost out of the woods as soon as we are done clear cutting some of the forest ;) Thanks, ** END EDIT** Hey Guys, Unfortunately with our last release, and its instability, we were forced to roll back releases. Unfortunately in doing so, it would seem that our notification system has been broken somehow. Our engineers are working on this issue as quickly as possible. We hope to have a patch within the next day, so we can deploy our code and fix the notification system at the same time. Please *bear* with us ;) Currently all notifications are being queued up so they can be processed as soon as the fix is pushed and verified to be working correctly. Thank you, Current Mood: grumpy |

The architecture of the Nexus is in a perpetual state of flux, with objects and parts of structures appearing, moving, and vanishing in a constant tectonic ballet. Certain to spread a few ripples in that fluid landscape is the sudden appearance of a broad expanse of marble floor, inlaid with jade and malachite, surrounding a bonfire better described as a towering inferno. Along one edge, a colonnade shelters a goblin orchestra which is presently warming up--at least, let's hope that's what the cacophony of squeaks and squawks implies. And of course, front and center stands the goblin king, in all his splendor. "The year's dark hours are fast upon us, children--at least, those of us who count. But is this a time for cowering in cold and darkness, waiting for its clutches? No! Now is the hour to hold night at arm's length, and someone warm a little closer. Come forth! Don a mask, eat, drink, dance, and make the year itself forget that it is cold. Even I shall be generous this night." ( Details, details. ) |

Weight of the World [Nexus, Ali, Kara] *The salle to which Samus brought Kara once before hasn't changed since the last time, except in the repair of the broken rack and practice-weapons. Samus lounges on one of the benches, stretching, an oilcan-sized canister made of ceramics and dense metals sitting next to her. Ali occupies another nearby bench, drawing.* |

Over at a bench, Faye can be found carefully cleaning her sword, and making sure it's still sharp enough for her tastes. It stands to reason that she should learn how to maintain her own weapons and be self sufficient in these matters. She pauses long enough to ask, "So... those of us who have a weapon of choice, how skilled are you in using it?" Current Mood: busy |

Christmas kiosk!
There's a stand set up in the Nexus, here in the shadow of the sign. It's presided over by a blond woman with happy blue eyes and a ready smile and a tall young man with slightly wayward brown hair and a red jacket. The woman is a hologram, the man however is very real, though not quite as human as he appears at the moment. The table in front of them and the shelves and glass front stasis units at their backs hold an assortment of Christmas or Hanukkah treats, including gingerbread houses that actually look good enough to eat, lox, whole smoked turkeys and dinochickens, ginger and cinnamon cookies, peppernut cookies, stained glass cookies, handmade candycanes of all flavors and colors, Christmas pudding, soda bread, dinochicken ham with crispy rind intact, all sorts of nuts, fruitcakes that look and smell like food, tourtière, different sorts of pies, shortbread, Pan de pascua, fish and fish dishes, rice pudding, kouglof, springerle, latkes, sufganiyot, and chocolate money. Among other things. The woman smiles as they finish setting up, then looks around and calls out, "Would anyone like to buy something for Christmas or Hanukkah? We've got nearly everything, some with an exotic twist. Good prices, and guaranteed LOL free. We even..." She nods to the young man. "Have a taste tester on hand to prove it." Current Mood: busy |

A small, weary-looking dog with a surgical bandage taped over its head wanders into the Nexus. It looks around, slightly disoriented at the sudden change of scenery. "Oh. What's this, then?" |

Seems that the Nexus continues to keep calling Jubilee to its question area, because here she is again. This time wearing a Santa hat and standing by a black pot filled with candy canes. (Don't worry, except for the side effect of getting a very red tongue - there is no LOLs on the candy canes). She smiles, "During this time of year, I know a lot of people make gift requests and express their hopes for the future. I would be happy to learn any of yours, if you are willing to share. What are you hoping for during the holiday season?" "And do you think you would be on Santa's naughty or nice list?" ( if your answer is NSFW, please identify it as so) |

Give a little to help a lot!

In honor of National AIDS Awareness month, we've added a new charitable vgift. For each red ribbon you purchase for $2.99, we'll donate 100 percent of gross proceeds to IAVI.org (the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative) to support the development and global distribution of an affordable HIV vaccine (we'll cover credit card fees). You can read more about IAVI at lj_cares. While we're on the subject, we raised $740 from our November fundraiser for Love Without Boundaries, which supports emergency healthcare and adoption of Chinese orphans. We thank you for helping us help others.

Supergirl floats down from the sky, settling into a couch with her cape around her. She looks VERY content and comfortable. "I've found my cousin and spent a few days with him. It's been awhile since I've been able to feel close to someone. It's got me thinking I'd like to move to be closer to him but I'm not really sure what kind of job to apply for or what I'd even be good at. What's YOUR dream job?" |

MogileFS Maintenance
**EDIT Thu Dec 3 23:24:15 UTC 2009 ** Hey Everyone, we are about to run the last alter job that we need to on our database servers. This will effect userpics / scrapbook / vgift images for the next few hours. Have no fear, your images aren't lost, there is just a really intensive process running on the servers which store the information for mogilefs. Thank you for your understanding and all the LJ love... Hey LJers, I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be performing some mogilefs maintenance over the next few days. We will be upgrading our current version to latest stable as well as changing some db config information to better handle the amount of files we are currently hosting. This shouldn't cause a big impact on site stability, but you may see some minor delays with userpic / scrapbook images appearing or other requests associated with our mogilefs. We would love to not have that happen, but unfortunately with some of the steps we need to take we have to cause a delay with images. I figured this was a better solution than taking down all of LiveJournal because well lets face it, we all need our daily LJ fix ;) Thanks, Current Mood: dirtyCurrent Music: Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction |

There's a Nero in the Nexus, sprawling across a couch (as usual) and focusing quite intently on what appears to be some sort of handheld game console, looking far too entertained. Not too entertained to ask a question, though. "What're some of your favorite things to do when you're bored?" He'll even answer that one himself if anyone turns it back on him, but the answers probably won't be very worksafe. |

Today, one can find Jubilee in the Nexus very easily. You just follow the fireworks that have been exploding for the last couple of minutes. Underneath those explosions of light and sound, laying on the ground on a very comfy blanket is Jubilation. She seems very comfortable in the flannel pajamas she seems to be sporting today, uncaring if anyone in the Nexus has a problem with someone wearing pjs (and fuzzy slippers). "So... when was the last time you had a really good cry? When was the last time you laughed so hard you had tears in your eyes?" "What would you say is a good way to embrace your emotions?" She gives a little smirk as she explodes another piff into the sky. "Three guesses to how I express mine." |

Because Explosions Are Fun?
A girl with cat ears wearing one of those t-shirts with the Milky Way galaxy on it and a pointer with caption "you are here," and another pointer with the caption on a lower arm of the galaxy that says "your luggage is over here" heads over to one of the convenient nexus chairs and plops down in it. "So, does anyone have any thoughts on why disaster movies and books are so popular?" "And for a second question, what are your favorite disaster movies?" Current Mood: amused |

Her Day In Court [Narrative] The petitioner will rise.*In the chambers of the Capresi Cluster Regional Grand High Court, housed in Hoshino Station, bounty hunter Samus Aran stood. At her back, the gallery was packed with representatives of virtually every media outlet active in Federation space, and the few who could lay claim to the remaining seats--even the local GalNet nodes chug under the weight of the telepresences looking in. Before her, her view of the Judicators' bench was slightly obscured by a forcefield, a conceit to the judges' senses of self-preservation that had not amused her, and which her advocates had decried as prejudicial. It was a battle they hadn't won, and she found herself hoping that their arguments in other areas had had more success.*

{L-sama enters the Nexus for the first time in quite a while and is accompanied by... something covered by a large drop cloth that is floating behind her} All right, it's been a while but I suppose this is as good a place as any to conduct my survey. It's simple and consists of two questions. Question 1) Karaoke: The greatest form of entertainment ever or an infernal abomination whose creator should be confined to the lowest pits of eternal torment for creating such a monstrosity? Question 2) {She pulls off the drop cloth to reveal what may indeed be the ultimate karaoke system. Huge display screens, a dance stage, laser light system and speakers slightly larger than your average transformer.... with dials that go to eleven} Who wants to have a go? If you can name the song we've got it {Gestures to a table covered in several impressively thick ringbinders} We've got plenty of microphones as well so don't be shy if you want to do a group number. {Grabs a mic herself, jumps on stage and starts singing 'I and Myself' from the Slayers Gorgeous soundtrack} ((Minor LOL alert: Reading through any of the song lists and not taking a turn on the karaoke machine will result in your character getting the most annyoing song they know stuck in their head for the next three days)) Current Mood: musical |

"Ah, I'm so glad I can regenerate, otherwise I'd be covered in bruises. No pain no gain, right?"
